I've seen pdfs in which text looks fuzzy but I think that's because they were created using scanned images that weren't sharp and no OCR was run- they just save the pages as images in a pdf file. That gives the ancient newspaper look.

I think the rendering of the fonts is fine- they appear sharp, but whoever chose the English fonts must not read much in English. I find the PMN Caecilia LT 66 font to be pretty easy on the eyes. The KindleBlackbox Regular font seems OK too. The Helvetica's are awful.
