I read all of them and enjoyed them thoroughly (as an adult) and don't think I'd call them "slop" although as someone noted above, they aren't literary masterpieces. I know people (my ex husband is one - give you a clue as to why he's my ex?) who think they're evil, satanic, pick your pejorative adjective here.
My note on it is this: they're FICTION. My opinion is that anything that gets kids interested in reading is a good thing. Think of the worlds HP could open up for a kid who hated reading up until they got hold of those books?
