The LRX from Sony was a huge mess. The base font size was too small and the margins HUGE. When you made the font size medium, you got huge gaps between the lines. Moving to ePub was the best thing Sony did.
The real issue with the LRX/EPUB thing on Sony is that at least when they originally converted, there were books that they had in LRX but were unable to get in EPUB. So, unless they have since been able to get the rights to convert all those books to EPUB (likely but not guaranteed) the switch may well have cost people money and broken their access to some books.
