Back when you bought that specific eBook, there was no ePub. So all you are doing now is being pedantic. Things change. Sony had to change or they would have eventually had to stop with eBooks.
The LRX from Sony was a huge mess. The base font size was too small and the margins HUGE. When you made the font size medium, you got huge gaps between the lines. Moving to ePub was the best thing Sony did.
