On my windows 7 PC, they are here:C:\Users\tamingi\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub
BTW, that file reflects changes to the desktop application. If I remove a book from I'm Reading and it disappears from the desktop application, it leaves that file as well. Since I want all the kepubs I have ever purchased backed up, I use a sync program (Allway Sync) that I have set to pickup on changes to that file. It then does a one way sync--only adding new books to my destination file, not removing them. That way I have all the books I have ever downloaded from Kobo as kepub files backed up all the time.
Another BTW: Until the 1.9 update to the Kobo WiFi, I absolutely hated using kepub formats. I have changed my mind. The update has eliminated that whole extra pages thing between chapter changes and the distance between lines (leading) is much better. Because of the ability to sync with other mobile devices and the dictionary support (flawed as it is), kepub is now my preferred format. That being said, I still download all my books in Adobe DRM format and have magically stripped the DRM and archived them for backup in my Calibre library.
