Unfortunately, the filename extension of a MobiPocket file does not reliably indicate its type. Both older MobiPocket (PRC) format files and newer (MOBI) format files can have the extension .prc or the extension .mobi. The newer format has the text BOOKMOBI near the start of the file, and typically includes the title and author. See
