Ok thanks that seems to work from the 1 test run I did with a custom news source. I did the 1st download, then a few hours later another one and it replaced it ok. For anyone else wanting to do this, changing built in recipes is a bit more work, you have to add it as a custom recipe then edit it as above, see the "Using News Recipes: Start Here" sticky and go down to the How do I modify a builtin recipe to make it work better? paragraph for more info if you need to.
