Question about Gingerbread

So now that the B&N update and opening of their app store is near, I'm trying to decide what I want to do but need a few questions answered.

I'm already rooted - I used autonooter 3.0. The main reason I chose it was because it kept all the B&N functionality. I feel like I have everything that I bought the NC for and so much more. I also liked that it was easy - all the other directions I found for rooting are too techie for me.

If you root with anything else like Froyo or Gingerbread do you maintain all the B&N functionality? I'm pretty sure that if you root with CM7 you get rid of all the B&N stuff so that's not an option for me though it is really cool.

What I really need to know is what is the easiest way to root the NC but still maintain all the B&N stuff on the device? I'm hoping a new version of autonooter will come out shortly after the B&N update, then I could backup, return to stock, root again and put all my apps back on. Is this even right? And I'm thinking why stay with 2.2 when 2.3 and Honeycomb are out (though I understand that HC is not "officially" out). Maybe I should use them if they are stable and keep the B&N stuff.
