Question iPad and travel

I travel to Iran, for four weeks, at the end of the next month. For reading/browsing I have a Kindle3 (with vodafonesim) which should be able to connect to some providers in Iran (according to vodafone).
But I find extensive browsing a bit of a pain on a Kindle3, so I am thinking of taking my iPad + MIFI hotspot (also vodafonesim) along.
I've also heard of internetrestrictions in Iran.
I would appreciate some advice, before I go lugging that somewhat heavy iPad along in my backpack. It would be handy as I can load a travelguide on it, but I'm just not sure.
