My guess as to why it was butchered can be found in this statement:
"Have you ever been asked curly questions and not known how to react?"
Having never heard the phrase 'curly questions', my lack of tact immediately led me down the wrong path.
It is well known in North America that I have little tact (if any...), that I am uncouth, a dipsomaniac, a lover of good cigars, and an all-around despicable character!
