LCD displays, as found in smart phones can have the same issue as your computer display. However, most eReaders such as the Sony Readers, Kindle, Kobo Reader, original nook all use eInk that doesn't use backlight and does hurt any more than printed paper does. In fact eInk displays, as mentioned, try to mimic printed paper.
