"I want to post
here and not down the list a bit
there" is not a valid reason to choose where to post.
MobileRead is a very large set of fora, and has sub-fora for all sorts of things, including various e-readers, things of interest to various market segments (readers, writers, etc.), a rather large free library -- and support for various software, including calibre. It is normally considered polite to put calibre questions in the calibre forum, Sigil questions in the Sigil forum, etc., just as it is to put Sony questions in the Sony forum.
Aside from the fact that it's considered polite to use the organization of MobileRead instead of just posting where you feel like, and that it's better for other users because most people looking for the answer to the same question in the future will look directly in the calibre forum, not in General, there's a reason that can be important to you personally: There are a lot more calibre experts hanging around looking for questions to answer in the calibre forum. You got your answers, but simply by posting in the appropriate section, you could have gotten better and more complete answers and gotten them more quickly. Instead of a few hours, you probably would have had the answers in a few minutes.
In short, if you had posted in the calibre forum -- right down the list a bit -- instead of in General, it would have been better for MobileRead, better for other users,
and better for you.
