Only a personal opinion, but you may gain valuable Calibre experience and learn a lot by fully "tidying up" those 50-60 books. You'll know what to avoid when you do the rest.

I have to admit, though, that I rarely do "bulk anything" in calibre (control freak, maybe). I like to know exactly where I'm up to. I'd certainly never bulk download metadata like tags - too much potential for a lot of junk data.

For what it's worth, when I did my initial imports I processed an author at a time. It allowed me to keep the author's FantasticFiction single webpage open so I could see all the series info and easily access each synopsis.

Following on from what Nyssa said. If you haven't already done so install the 'Search the Internet' plugin. It will save you a lot of effort Googling.
