If you have never tried vegimete and are trying it for the first time it's really, really salty so just scrape it on the toast. Don't spread it. If you like tasty cheese grills a little under the cheese is nice too.
Marmite is like vegimite with less salt. It seems sweeter but it may be that it has less salt. (There was a really bad competitor to Marmite in the sixties call Parwill. I'll leave you to think of how they marketed that.)
Bovril wasn't an Australian staple. Although being around when I grew up I watched people drink it rather than drink it myself. It was advertised on tele. Though, with weather like the northern hemisphere has had I can understand it would be welcomed by many but with the hot temperatures here it got beaten to the mark by a nice cold beer.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are what we saw on US tele shows as kids here in Australia. What we call jelly here is what you guys in the states called jello (I think. You know the cold stuff from the fridge)
Popular sandwiches when I was a kid were peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Especially warm on toast.
Nutella. If it wasn't for the fact that nearly all women are nearly always on some kind of diet I think Nutella would have been in the cupboard constantly just like peanut butter and vegimite always is.
My wife loves it spread on anything that will stay still long enough to do so. I really don't get that excited. It's nice but I don't eat chocolate Easter eggs for breakfast and that's sort of what it's like.
My niece works for Arnotts. (Big Australian biscuit [cookie] company bought by Campbells [I think]) They market TIM TAM biscuits to the south pacific islanders as a great breakfast food.
