That is true for most people I know also. The reason is that an hardcover takes to much place and do not fit into a shelf optimized for paperbacks. And some people would be willing to pay hardcover price to get early access to a paperback version of the book. But for a lot of people the fact that the paperback version is not available will lead to a lost sale since they will read the book in another way and later not buy the paperback version.
