Hi The Old Man,
How is your iPad set up/backed up now?
I gave my wife my iPad 1-here is how I set things up:

1) When I got the iPad 2, it asked me if I wanted to restore the settings from my iPad 1, I said yes. After a pretty lengthy transfer process I ended up with a clone of my iPad 1 on my iPad 2. I had to reset email passwords, some logins on apps, etc...Oddly, some apps remembered their logins-for example, LogMeIn, which gives me access to my work computers had it saved somehow, which was a bit disconcerting Games like Angry Birds saved my settings/places.

2) I then set up my iPad 1 for my wife, by syncing it with her computer. In this case, it copied the apps I had on the iPad 1 to her computer first, then we just reconfigured everything-deleted my email settings, added hers, etc.

3) We set them up with one iTunes account, so we could share apps. She could download any apps that I had bought/downloaded earlier with no problem. Her email settings, Facebook, etc. are maintained on her iPad 1 with no problem. We actually have 3 iPhones and 2 iPads all on the same iTunes account with no issues.
