The problem will be when people see the Kindle at the library and then go and by one. They'll ask how to get library eBooks onto it and will be told it is not possible. Then they will not be happy.
This is why having Kindle's to loan at the library is a bad idea. The only devices they should have for loan is ones that work with library ePub. It will make a lot less of a problem for people who do not know about DRM stripping and format shifting.
