well, much depends on how you use your iPad really. The new iPad supposedly has a 2x faster CPU and significantly faster graphics performance. These thing may or may not matter to any given individual.
For example Adobe also has released version 2.0 of Photoshop Elements for iOS. This could certainly benefit from a faster CPU (weirdly enough, the graphic sub-sytem might not be much of a factor for still image processing). I am sure there are other apps that couple, potentially, exploit the faster hardware, assuming the rest of the iPad 2 allows developers to take advantage of the faster individual components. Meaning was there a change to the mainboard and iOS to allow users to benefit from the fast components that make up the whole.
Oh, another weirdism I read about of Photoshop Elements for iOS 2.0 is that it currently does not support control of the iPad 2's cameras. Wat to go Apple and Adobe, keep feuding with the ants that are us users under your grubby feet.

Just ranting...haha...
One thing is with everything in Japan right now, things are likely to be very volatile for a while, a loooong while and while you might get less for the old iPad today, if the supply dries up on the iPad 2's before production can be ramped back up then the prices on the original iPad are likely to creep back up to that above $400 range for a 32gb iPad. I was looking on eBay last night and there is no problem finding a wifi/3g iPad 1 in the $380-$450 range and it should drop more, I figure they will settle near to $350 depending on the added bits and dongles.
Remember developers are going to get sloppy and start writing code that might not be as efficient as on the iPad 1. Apps will get more CPU and graphics hungry as well as begin to bloat a bit. This will eventually create a chasm in backward device compatibility based on performance issues alone. So if performance is key for you then maybe now might be a good time but only if you know you can secure an iPad 2 at the same time as selling your iPad 1. Otherwise, I would say wait, sure you might take a $100 price hit later when iPad 3 is released, if it is released at all later this year. I just see the next gen iPad as closer to a real computer many of us hoped for. It took Apple 3.5 versions to get the Touch right and no real reason it won't take them at least three versions to get the iPad right.
Personally I would wait until there are apps you can't run but want to. That is really the same mindset I have with computers. once my software makes me I upgrade. Until that point I see no reason to not run my systems until they start smoking!!
