Well, I managed to get the books "unexpired" on my laptop by setting the date back on the laptop itself. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to change the date on the nook so I guess I'm out of luck. As soon as I transfer the books to the nook, they come up as expired or about to expire. One of the books that expires I think in 5 days is over 500 pages so that's not going to get read. I waited over a month to get it too.
I'm not likely to read them on the laptop.
Can't believe there's not some kind of workaround. It's got to be embedded somewhere (exp. date). I thought I found it when I opened the acsm file for one of them but when I changed the date, the file wouldn't open. (Don't worry, I made a duplicate of the file before I started messing with it.) I'd be happy if I could even renew the books but that's not an option.
I'd gladly pay a fee for a library if I could keep the books longer or renew them. Using the library for ebooks is saving me a LOT of money regardless of the drawbacks.
