I don't know what an "old fashioned backlited TFT" is in this context. It is an LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, and IPS is a type of TFT.

I don't know what you mean by light leakage being typical of TFTs, or poor viewing angles either. TFT just means thin film transistor-there are many different types of screens under this. IPS ones tend to have excellent viewing angles, and the iPad 1 and 2 are no exception. Some iPad 2 users have complained of light leakage, as did some iPhone 4 users when it first launched.

And your big "NO!" is of course, your opinion. I have no trouble reading on the iPad. For the OP, if you had no trouble reading on the iPad 1, you won't have any trouble on the iPad 2. iBooks opens a lot quicker, and the bookshelf display is a lot more responsive, but in terms of page turns, and just reading, the iPad 1 will still serve you well. I do appreciate the new shape and lighter weight, however, when standing and reading. |

Interesing that I haven never seen any viedo or photo of a defective screen on iPad 1 whilst for iPad 2 there are ...
I know that techincally speaking all of the screens are TFT but the thechnology gets updated and new marketing terms were given like MVA, PVA, IPS to diferentiate from the oldest. Back in time, about 10 years ago I had a notebook with a kind of "old-fashioned for nowadays" TFT display which has exactly the same light leakage in the corners and borders.
I have not seen any iPad 2 on my eyes yet...
