sounds like you had an alternate firmware on your memory card and you flashed over to it. If you didn't put it there, then the Pandigital you bought was probably returned by a previous owner who did put it there.
Not sure how/why they would have reverted it to stock firmware and still had a different firmware on the card.
If you had Kobo, I assume you have the black model, which I am unfamiliar with. But I'm sure someone here or on slatedroid can help you get it back to stock firmware if that is what you want.
What apps are on it? SAM and ES file explorer are a couple of the ones that are on the main screen of the open platform firmwares for the white model.
