This book really was a wake-up call to me. I think of the Nazis as being such depraved beasts, but I was completely unaware of what was happening in the POW camps in the Pacific Theater. I found myself cringing at every page, yet unable to tear myself away from reading it.

It's a horrifying yet inspirational story.
