In a lecture for neuroscience the professor explained something about parts of the brain which get tired because for each picture (50 times a second) they have to process the information. As a result these parts of the brain eventually get tired which can make it more difficult to process the visual information which you do conciously experience. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact details.
Anyhow, that it is more tiring to read from an LCD screen is something which we agree upon. That is much more important than the exact causes.
