Some folks here may also recall Gorgo, a British giant monster movie, in which London gets trashed for a change.

Gorgo is actually the baby, found by explorers, and held in captivity in the UK. The fun starts when Gorgo's mom comes to rescue her baby.

It spawned a short lived comic series from Charlton in the US with more of the same. Godzilla had nothing on Gorgo's mom - in one book, she's shot by an atomic cannon firing a shell containing enough nerve gas to kill half the population of the US. It puts her to sleep for a while. In another, she's ground zero for an atomic bomb. It stuns her and chars her a bit around the edges, but ultimately just makes her even angrier.

Of course, if humanity actually learned not to come between giant monsters and their kids, what would we do for monster movies and comics?
