I received a regular sized envelope with a return address of "Google ebooks".

It contained only four colored plastic strips as follows:

A Green one with "My other book is a laptop." in white letters.

A Yellow one with ""My other book is a tablet."

An Orange one with "Take your library anywhere."

A Blue one with ""My other book is a smartphone."

There was no letter included in the envelope, no explanation for there use,
or why they were sent.

My guess is that someone thought there would be some value, to Google, if
these strips were left in books, for others to see.

Or maybe if I still used a bike and had some clothespins?
