yup, that was my point in adding the comment. It's that none of the media seem to be paying attention to that very quiet acquisition by Amazon. They even immediately rolled Touchco into the Kindle division. So to me they were serious in buying the company.
Apparently their tech was really promising at the time and very inexpensive at just $10/sq. yd to produce the touch layers. I also seem to recall what added to the value of their system was the multi-touch capability.
No matter it should be an interesting device and given that Amazon sells a ton of multi-media content along with the core book sales, a slate PC type device seems really reasonable. Not sure it's gonna be a Kindle though, they might branch it a bit so as not to muddy the eink waters of Kindle devices. Unless of course it has a spiffy new EPD type panel in full color. But I have given up on that type of panel happening in the next two years. I'm resigned to a high-res LCD panel instead.
