I've never had a Kobo, but I've played with friends'.

I don't find the 350 slow at all. I've had it since October 2010 and I've only noticed 2 slowdowns; I rebooted and it was fine.

Go with whichever reader makes you happy -- Kobo's cheaper but IMO the Sony's prettier and feels more sturdy.
