"Mary Hamilton" is one of the famous 'Child Ballads,' number 173 in fact. Francis James Child collected 305 English and Scottish ballads in ALL their variations! 'Mary Hamilton' as 28 completely different sets of lyrics! Like "Barbra Allen," (Child #84, which has over 300 different verses,) the song just flows along so sweetly...

Believe it or not, I had to look it up. It is beautiful, and I didn't realize there were so many Child Ballads, either.
