@KindleUp: The backups are just that, a backup, they're only here if you want to use them as 'custom' ones, other than that, you don't have to worry about it, they take no part at all in the process itself.
There's no need to 'overwrite' anything, the framework doesn't expect the same exact filenames, just put your custom screensavers in the directory and restart. (And the reason why you don't want to bypass the hack is because it'll make official updates fail).
