Hmm, maybe I should be a little more clear -
I have the original Kindle w/ 3G + WiFi; software version: 2.5.3 (490488060), and while I'm fairly certain I installed the jailbreak properly I could certainly be wrong.
I copied the proper jailbreak (update_jailbreak_0.6.N_k2_install.bin) and then ejected my Kindle from my computer, went to the Menu/Settings and saw that "Update My Kindle" was grayed out. Since I couldn't use that, I restarted my Kindle and it went to the "updating software" screen, which failed (it had 0003) at the bottom) and tapped "r" to finish restarting and went to the Home screen.
Did the same thing with the Screensaver .bin and ejected/restarted the Kindle the same way. Plugged it back into the USB port and didn't see the linkss folder anywhere.
I'm no programmer, but I can definitely follow instructions - did I miss a step somewhere? I attached a screenshot of the Kindle root folder if that helps.
