It's mostly because of the font that is used on the Kindle. I find it a lot more pleasing to the eye than the fonts that is used for most epubs. I know I can change the font using calibre, but because I find it's too much work I rarely do this.

Then there's the way I hold a reader. I hold it with both hands, with my thumbs on the side of the reader. So with the kindle, that way at least one of my thumbs is on the forward button. I just push down, I don't have to move my hands at all when I reach the end of a page. With my Sony, I have to move my thumb every time I want to turn a page, or place my hands on the bottom (with thumb on forward button). Which is uncomfortable to me.

The Kindle is also more slender than the Sony. I never thought I'd say this, but I like the look of the Kindle more.

These are all very personal reasons, and I'm sure there are lots of people who prefer the Sony reader instead. I think right now I do 3/4 of my reading on my Kindle. The remaining 1/4 are either pbooks or ebooks on my Sony.
