Also, i hear the sony store isn't in the same league as amazon. i know there are others, however if Sony had access to B&N store that would have been a major plus. With that being said, if I decided on a Sony, i would opt for the PRS -650. I probably wouldn't shop in the sony store most of the time, hence no need for Wi-Fi. If i opted for kindle i would certainly use Wi-Fi.

Last question and i will leave it at that. I know you can hack the kindle to use custom wallpapers etc. is there also a hack to view book covers instead of a list? would be an added bonus, though not a necessary one.
I love Overdrive, which is the name of the service that most public libraries use to check out ebooks.

No need to guess, I suggest find out which of your local libraries has this service available, and check it out yourself.

YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE A READER TO USE OVERDRIVE, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AND VIEW THE BOOKS ON YOUR PC USING ADE.

Just download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) free from Adobe.

In fact, at most libraries you don't even have to have a membership account to preview and search their overdrive selections to see what's available, because it won't make you log in until you want to actually download something.

My local library lets me have access to about 700 titles with a nice selection of best selling authors.

Remember though, this is a library, so you can't get a book if it's already checked out.

At my local library, use levels seem to be increasing, because where only about 2/3 of the titles were checked out on an average day before, these days I am lucking if 100 to 150 titles are available, and I have seen as low as 50.

This isn't as bad as you might think, because you can get on the wait-list and the server will send you an automatic email when your title is available.

You can have lots of titles wait-listed at the same time, and that way there is something new available every few days.

Just surf on over to one of your local libraries web pages and check things out.

As far a comparing the Sony Store to Amazon, remember it's not just the Sony Store, it's the Sony Store, PLUS Kobo, PLUS Borders, PLUS Google Books, because with the Nook or Sony you can buy from them as well.

Truth be told, you can do that with the Kindle as well, but you would have to mess around with DRM and format conversions, and if you are willing to do that, Amazon and B&N books will also work fine on the Sony.

This is not needed to put Kobo, Borders, or Google Books on the Sony though, because they all use Adobe ADEPT DRM and are 100% cross compatible.

So why don't you just surf over to your library, the Sony Store, Kobo, Google Books, and Borders and do some quick searches for your favorite authors, and make up your mind for yourself.

I doesn't cost anything to window shop.
