If you like or need public library books, you would need ePub, but I would stay away of a 2 years old device like Nook, with 1st gen eink screen and poor battery life; save some money and buy a Sony.

To me, the touch screen on Nook is so distracting, unresponsive and drains battery like crazy. Outdoor the touchscreen makes it difficult to read also, even when the main screen is eink, browsing and TOC is displayed on the LCD so defeats the eink screen main purpose on the ereader.

If public library books is not a most, get the Kindle. Up to 1 month of battery life, 8 oz, International support and great and huge online bookstore like Amazon.

I had a Nook, sold it and bought a Kindle, zero regrets! Same exact books on Amazon for less or same price.
