I had a long winded reply with plenty of sage comments almost finished then I closed
the wrong window, and lost the whole thing.
There are a bunch of old threads with tips on how to get the most from your JBL, they
could be worth checking out.
A good place for batteries and chargers:

You should get a USB 2.0 SDHC Reader/Writer for your PC, it makes things a lot faster
and less troublesome.

I use this one on my PC, but I have a number of devices that use Flash Cards:

While there is much more to be learned here, there is also the "Official" Ectaco forum:

If you are a computer type you will like that the JBL uses a normal file structure, with
folders and subfolders to handle the eBook library. If you prefer a "Bookshelf" approach
you can allow one of the retailer supplied PC software programs to "manage" your books,
like the B&N program, or you could use Calibre for that, as well as to do conversions.
(I make my own "Master Library" folder on my PC then use the free "SyncToy" to update
my "Portable Libraries", on SD cards. You can select what gets updated to the cards
when you do the sync, allowing only "Daddy Approved" books for your daughter's
Portable Library.)
Luck;
