Hello All,
Im new to the forums, as well as Ebook Readers, although i have been lurking for quite some time. I've been doing too much research as usual and have been driving myself crazy because of it! Simply put, i want an E ink Ereader and i'm looking to buy it as soon as possible. i'm leaving the country next week and would like to have it with me when i travel. I have narrowed my options to what's been discussed here a million times before in the Kindle or the Nook. i like the Sony as well but i would only be looking at the 650 and no wifi is a deal breaker for me. I would really appreciate any help and feedback that you can give in oder to help me make my decision.
I've had a chance to try both and here are my pros and cons for each:
Kindle
Pros
1. The device is snappy. It just "works" and there is a lot to be said for that.
2. The Kindle is extremely lightweight
3. Amazon has terrific support and i just flat out like them as a company. I have never had any issue in any regard with them.
4. Text input is much quicker than nook
5. Dictionary that is better/quicker than the nook
6. Amazon has much better non fiction collection than B&N, and to me, the store generally has a better selection
7. Pearl E Ink screen (although recent 1.5 update makes nook much more comparable)
Cons
1. I do not always want to purchase a book so being able to check out from library is nice. ( i know there are free sources, but i'm relating more to new releases)
2. I do not like the layout of content as much as the nook
3. Having to convert Epubs with Calibre. While this is not hard it is still a minor annoyance that can be avoided with the Nook.
Nook
pros
1. EPub support. While this isn't a deal breaker it is obviously a huge factor. I don't care as much about the lending feature, (which kindle now has) but i do about library books. A key for those who don't see this as a big issue due to selection and availability, the way ebook readers are currently exploding, this can only get better. It has to...
2. I like the look of the nook better
3. Going into the store isn't a huge factor (though the perks are nice)
4. Live support in store is also a benefit, but not essential. I'm enough of a "tech geek" to troubleshoot most issues on my own
Cons
1. Touchscreen. While i like the idea of the screen it is definitely somewhat laggy, although improved with recent update. The thing i've noticed is that the lag isn't really the lcd itself it is more the interaction it has with the Eink screen. When i scroll through the lcd with the eink screen off it doesn't seem to be an issue.
2. As mentioned above, store selection. Not a huge disparity but not as broad of a selection as Amazon.
3. Pricing of Ebooks
4. Screen Resolution. Certainly not bad, just not as nice as Kindle 3.
As you can see, i've done enough research to drive myself crazy which i have

I apologize for the long post but just want to make sure i made the right decision in the end. I know it's difficult for recommendations as most people tend to recommend what they use, understandably. Thanks in advance for all the help/input!
