Newer versions of K4PC allow you to change where your ebooks are stored. Searching for them can be a bit tough, since you don't know exactly what the file-name is. If you go to "Tools->Options->Content" in K4PC, that will tell you where content that you have delivered to K4PC should be stored. EDIT: the filename is going to be a 10 character alphanumeric string (ASIN) and an underscore with an 'EBOK' thrown in for good measure. The title of the book won't be in there.
If the books you're talking about are not Amazon purchased books (non-DRM mobi's) they could be anywhere... just double-clicking on a mobi will open it in K4PC. And K4PC will remember where it was (until you remove it).
