My guess would be the cdetype != PDOC or EBOK is what's messing up things for calibre generated news... AFAIK, calibre *should* correctly set this to PDOC, but I may be wrong. I'll take a look at it.

EDIT: It does, but only when it finds the pdoc tag specified in the mobi output config in the tags of a book when sending it to the Kindle. (On my system, it was set to [PDOC], so my news weren't flagged PDOC either).

Long story short: Set the personnal doc tag to 'News' instead of '[PDOC]' in Pref > Output Options > Mobi output. Every news sent from this point forward should be correctly tagged as cdetype PDOC, and that *should* fix your issue. [Of course, you'll have to resend your back issues to update the metadata in these].
