I used to sew a lot, but these days I do mostly survival sewing. (Except at Christmas, when I make cloth gift bags for all my gifts instead of using wrapping paper. I've been doing it for over 30 years, I guess, so everybody would be disappointed if I just wrapped a present now!) Anyway, for a while I collected sewing machines. My favorite electric machines are Singer Featherweights -- they look like toys but sew beautifully. Most of my others are treadles or handcranks.
That's a good idea: these giftbags. I've a whole cupboard with cloths.
Collecting sewing machines: all of a sudden I have this image of rows of shelves with hundreds of sewing machine on it and a proud, beaming Betty in front.

I have a Swiss Bernina sewing machine. I used to make large quantities of things, like duvet-covers X 12, quilted pot- holders x 24 or curtains for the whole house. Like you, I do 'survival sewing' now, but I'm thinking of ways to use all that cloth I collected in my cupboard.
