I have just been watching a special edition of our Good Morning sofa program on Swedish television, which doesn't normally run on Sundays. This one was to handle reporting of the catastrophe in Japan. One of the permanent members of today's panel is Yukiko Duke, a woman we normally associate with book reports, but, as her name implies, she is of Japanese extraction. She has been reporting right through the program on the latest information from the Japanese media, and on her knee she has an iPad.
This is only the second time I have seen what one can call modern technology in a tv program, drama or news. The other was also during the crisis, when the news program had a conversation with a Swedish person studying in the area. Telephones were out, but internet was working - don't ask me how - and their conversation with the person had a photograph of him on one side of the screen and the Skype logo on the other.
