Sorry! I was the one who made the first typo on "/root/.font" thing, and as others have pointed out, it should be /home/root/.fonts/. I had the same problem of unable to get chinese font from iDS after I re-installed v2.11, so I've tried this method and it works for me.

The Unicode font I suggest you get is this one: http://img.yyjoy.com/yy/post/20070529/msyh.rar, which is a shrinked version of MS YaHei font, only about 5MB.

Also, I believe creating fonts directory on memory cards should also work, but I've not tested it myself.

But again, whether FBReader is able to properly display Chinese UTF-8 encoded HTML or TXT file using the Chinese font is another story. It may have nothing to do with the font. I personally never really used FBReader (I find its interface unsatisfying), so I can't really tell.
