My passport number is 8 digits, no letters. I signed up with my real number and name. Then I though my daughter could use a membership as well, so I signed her up but I didn't have her passport number so I gave a 10-digit number that is not her passport number, but another number she knows very well and that worked as well. So it seems to me like almost anything works.
