I am not able to understand how Adam Engst even got the idea that using Kindle can be seen as rebellion against Apple. First of all there are so many reading platforms (PCs, phones, tablets, dedicated e-readers) that all Kindles and Apple's all platforms together comprise only a small fraction of them. Even if we take only LCD based reading platforms there are an overwhelming number of choices besides Apple. Why would anyone choose just Kindle out of the many? Yes, eInk would be a good reason but there are other eInk readers. And in that case the reason is eInk not rebellion against anything. And in many cases it is indeed eInk which is the reason. The moment I first took a look at an eInk display I thought that reading on LCD is no match for reading on eInk.
So Adam Engst did not give it too much thought before he came up with this idea.
