Kobos are great if you value simplicity of operation and the lower cost then most other readers. If what I have been told by Kobo owners is true your kobo supports epub and PDF with Kobo books DRM. This means that you can get your books from most anywhere with the exception of Amazon and and Sony. Although you should start with Borders and Kobo Books before going to look for other electronic book stores to chose from. The lower price enables you to use the electronic books with your pupils more so then Kindles, Nooks and Sony PRS readers because those readers have higher price tags and its less cost to you if your pupils damage the reader. I beleve that you will need to download and install Adobe Digital Editions in order to upload the books you buy to the reader.
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management and is code that is entered into the books you buy that restricts what you can do with the books such as selling them and or giving them to friends and/or neighbors or selling copies of the books. That's not so bad but it often has undesierable effects such as not allowing you to store the book on hard drive in case something happends to the primary copy. DRM can be stripped from books quite easily with Calibre software.
Personally I do not use Calibre but I can understand why a lot of forum members like it and use it a lot. Calibre is something to look into and might help you get organized for the day's lessons. Calibre is free and there are a lot of people around these parts that know how to use it, collectively forum members know everything about everything.
The Kobo is great for reading to your pupils however its not color screen and may not be the best thing for showing illustrations and pictures to them. You might need to draft a PC monitor or laptop for that task.
As far as other inns and outs of ereaders go you will find that everyone here seems to think that what ever reader they have is the best of all. IMHO there is no best reader for all people, it really depends on what you find important and what features you need on the reader. The kobo isn't the best for large electronic libraries, that's the Kindle. It's not really designed for A4 book pages or foriegn languege books, that's the Bookeen. It's not touch screen - that's the Sony PRS, Nook and Nook Color. Its not color screen - that's Nook Color and Libra Pro Color.
