An earlier poster was right: in grumbling about there being no free books if you don't live in America, I should indeed have said 'America, Canada or the UK'. Which still leaves, um, 242 countries without free Amazon books by my reckoning.....

Given that Amazon will sell you a dead trees book irrespective of where you live, the hoary old argument about legal reasons seems rather pathetic. Many of their free books (non-free in 242 countries) are identical to Gutenberg et. al -- whose site is open for downloading to all.
