This is how Amazon always intended non-Amazon content to appear when sharing highlights. If you didn't buy it from them... they assume it's a personal document. No cover art. Kinda sucky, but there you have it.
In fact... if you alter your side-loaded, non-Amazon content to enable syncing of the "Furthest Read Page", you very well may break your ability to share highlights or rate that same non-Amazon content. Either way, sharing highlights or ranking non-Amazon content will always appear as a Personal Document (with no pretty coverart) -- or it won't work at all depending on how you alter your mobi's (ASIN & CDEType).
