If you really want to get access to your public library, get a Sony! In terms of technology, the Nook is an old device. I would not be surprise if they just release a new and better eink device by Nov. of this year. You maybe will save a few bucks buying a Nook, but you are not getting a device with long battery life or most recent pearl screen technology, think about it.

Now, please check those title on Internet. Most of copyright free books you find on public libraries are also available on MOBI format, so the Kindle should not be an obstacle on that matter.
