I've been having problems all day with cover downloads as well. I pulled up the error detail and, at least in my case, it can't understand responses from Amazon.com and openlibrary.org is giving permission errors, which I believe to be related to their site maintenance.
It was working last night for me. Hopefully it will start working again soon.
