Thanx for the reply Hiaig but I found out what my problem was. I eventually got the emulator running by choosing the 2.0.1 (api level6) instead of the 1.6 platform. I now have the android ID.
But I have another problem: the reason why I can't setup a2sd or get the android id on my pocketbook is the fact that i can not get adb working on my usb connection. the whole time I was pushing the asd file into the emulated phone
instead of the pocketbook. I have tried 2 laptops to connect and different usb cables but i can only access the internal memory and the sd card. adb connect with tcp-ip also doesnt work (unable to connect) and even with the adb usb command I get: device not connected. Is there another way to change my android id and get a2sd working?
