There are two different specs: SD and SDHC cards. For all practical purposes the SD card are up to 2GB and have no speed classes as such but uses a speed rating such as 50X (X=150KB). There are currently four speed classes for the SDHC cards: 2, 4, 6 and 10. These numbers represent the minimum sustained write speed in megabytes per second.
Notes:
SD/SDHC come in three sizes; standard, mini and micro.
The read speed is always greater than the write speed.
MB and Mb are not the same. In all cases, the upper case "B" are bytes and the lower case "b" are bits (8bits = 1Byte). Video cameras typically specify speed in "mbs" which means you have to divide by 8 and round up to determine the speed class requirement.
