The greatest dangers to authors are scarcity and obscurity, and by refusing to make his books available as ebooks, he's contributing to both. However, I'd like to point out that the one book of Andy Rooney's which is available at B&N (for free) probably shouldn't be. It looks like it was erroneously contributed to archive.org by CMU's Million Books Project / Digital Library and B&N made it available for free because it was at archive.org., When I checked, I could see that it's still under copyright. If I were him, I'd have my agent send notices to archive.org and B&N partly because it's an unauthorized edition of a work still under copyright, and partly because the MBP/DL did such a poor job of scanning it.
